06/27/2025

Chignolo D’Isola, Bergamo, Italy – June 23, 2025 – The Flamma Group  (“Flamma”) is a global, fully integrated company producing and commercializing small molecule Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for the life science industry. As a preeminent Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) of New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and late stage intermediates for the Innovator Companies, Flamma celebrated the Grand Opening of its new state-of-the-art cGMP plant in Dalian, China. This milestone aligns with the company’s broader strategy to invest significantly across its global network which included its continued expansion within Italy.

“Flamma has been present in the Chinese market for over 30 years. Initially, we focused on sourcing key raw materials directly to secure the supply chain. We then established our own R&D laboratory in China which ultimately led to the formation of Flamma Honkai in Dalian in 2012. We are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past 17 years of operations in Dalian. With Honkai being a fully owned and run subsidiary, we’ve been able to combine Flamma’s core values and expertise with the efficiency of the Honkai management team, leading to a 30-fold increase in turnover, Chinese FDA approval, and significant market growth,” says Dr. GianPaolo Negrisoli, President and CEO.

Founded 75 years ago in Bergamo, Flamma continues to represent the excellence of Italian manufacturing and innovation. “As we inaugurate this major site in Dalian, we also reaffirm our roots,” states GianMarco Negrisoli, Executive Director – Corporate Development. “This global expansion complements the substantial investments we are making in Italy, including significant facility upgrades, capacity increases, and continued recruitment of high caliber talent. Flamma plans to reinvest $200 million worldwide over the next five years to grow our manufacturing capacity, technology and capabilities, reinforcing the synergy between its Italian heritage and global outlook.”

Flamma Published in Organic Process Research & Development (OPRD): A new method for assessing eco-impact by using both quantitative and qualitative data, focusing on process sustainability

04/15/2025

Chignolo D’Isola, Bergamo, Italy – April 15, 2025 – The Flamma Group  (“Flamma”), a global, fully integrated company producing and commercializing small molecule Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for the life science industry as well as a preeminent Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) of New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and late stage intermediates for the Innovator Companies, recently published an article in Organic Process Research & Development (OPRD). ORPD is widely recognized as a leading journal focusing on sustainable and safe syntheses for industrial-scale applications.

Flamma has published the article titled “Solvent Eco-Impact Metric: A Tool for Chemists to Drive Sustainability in Chemical Processes across Safety, Health, Waste, and Environmental Aspects” in Organic Process Research & Development (OPRD). The article is published open access, making it freely available to the global scientific and industrial community and is available here https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.oprd.4c00546.

This article discusses a new method for assessing eco-impact by using both quantitative and qualitative data, focusing on process sustainability. The metric offers actionable guidelines to support daily process development, aiding in achieving ESG objectives. The new approach is designed to adapt to the specific needs of any chemical or pharmaceutical company, without aiming to introduce a new industry standard.

The article was published on OPRD as open source, allowing Flamma to reach a broader audience and build a stronger reputation in the CDMO industry. In the latest version of the process evaluation tools are already implemented the new approach and metrics in the “Eco-Impact” worksheet.

“This publication marks an important milestone for Flamma and reflects our concrete approach to supporting ESG goals through innovation in process chemistry,” notes Federico Della Negra, who co-authored the publication with Massimo Verzini and Marco Ferrara.

Marco Ferrara adds “The article presents a practical, adaptable tool developed and routinely used at Flamma to quantify and reduce the eco-impact of API manufacturing. This metric helps identify key areas for improvement and supports chemists in making informed, sustainable choices that align with ESG goals.”

Flamma is proud to take this significant step forward in its commitment to greener, more efficient process development.
