Flamma Showcases Scientific Leadership at Italy’s Premier Organic Chemistry Congress

Flamma was proud to participate in the XLIII National Congress of the Organic Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society, held in Naples, Italy from September 13-17, 2026, where the company was represented through scientific contributions, industry leadership, and sponsorship support.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Massimo Verzini, Flamma’s Chief Technology Officer, who received the Scientific Research Award in recognition of his contributions to organic chemistry and industrial process innovation.

Massimo’s participation extended beyond the award ceremony. On September 17, he delivered an invited presentation entitled“Flow Chemistry Beyond Automation: Towards Intelligent and Reconfigurable Manufacturing,” addressing how continuous manufacturing, advanced automation, process analytical technologies, machine learning, and modular manufacturing concepts are transforming pharmaceutical process development and commercialization.

Massimo also joined the congress roundtable discussion, “Basic and Applied Research for the Future of Chemistry: Sustainable Processes, Digitalization and Education,” contributing Flamma’s perspective on the future of scientific innovation and manufacturing excellence. The session was chaired by Giorgio Bertolini, who also serves on the Executive Committee of the Division of Organic Chemistry.

Flamma’s participation extended well beyond these speaking engagements. Members of the R&D team, including Riccardo Porta and Francesco Ponzini, attended the congress to engage with researchers, technology providers, and industry leaders while exploring the latest scientific developments across organic chemistry, sustainable synthesis, and process innovation.

The congress provided an excellent opportunity to showcase Flamma’s scientific capabilities, exchange ideas with leaders from academia and industry, and reinforce the company’s position at the forefront of innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing. As a sponsor of the event, Flamma was proud to support a forum dedicated to advancing the science that drives future breakthroughs.

These achievements build upon other recent examples of Flamma’s scientific leadership, including participation in a webinar organized by the CPA focused on Life Cycle Assessment and sustainability in pharmaceutical manufacturing. During that event, Marco Ferrara and Federico Della Negra presented Flamma’s methodology for evaluating solvent sustainability and demonstrated an open-access tool designed to help guide environmentally responsible decision-making.

Collectively, these contributions underscore the depth of talent across Flamma’s organization and the company’s continued commitment to scientific excellence, sustainability, collaboration, and innovation.

We congratulate Massimo Verzini, Giorgio Bertolini, Riccardo Porta, Francesco Ponzini, Marco Ferrara, Federico Della Negra, and all colleagues whose expertise and dedication continue to strengthen Flamma’s reputation within the global scientific community.
